14-year-old Revolutionary Optimist Sikha Patra made this Short Film
to highlight the problems that her peers are facing -- like early marriage and the lack of girl's education in their communities. Sikha was the youngest participant chosen among four adolescents to speak at "National Girl Child Day," hosted by the Ministry of Women & Child Development, in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. She shared her experiences of the problems faced by adolescent girls-- especially early marriage--and the innovative strategies being implemented by her group in her own community. The Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Smt. Krishna Tirath, was present at the occasion and particularly mentioned her significant contribution in this regard. Sikha has been selected as a Youth Champion to actively participate in playing the role of peer educator/leader in the youth campaign against child marriage, launched by UNICEF and the Dept. of Social Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal. Sikha was also recently selected, along with Salim Sekh, to present on her work at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford University.
